Ice Hockey

My introduction to, and extended commentary highlights of, the 2019 Champions Hockey League Final in Gothenburg.

I made my hockey play-by-play debut on radio for WHRB-FM all the way back in December 1994, and hockey is the sport I've covered most extensively in my commentary career. (The above video from the 2019 Champions Hockey League Final is a good introduction to my hockey commentary style.)

As of 2023, I am one of the main Winter Olympic and Paralympic hockey commenators for OBS; I am the main voice of the Champions Hockey League (world feed broacasts); and I am calling games in the Swiss National League, including the whole of the 2023 NL Playoff Finals.

Ice hockey/para ice hockey at the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics

I was in China to cover the both the Olympics and Paralympics at Beijing 2022 for Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS). I commentated on a total of 27 Olympic games in 17 days in person from Beijing's National Indoor Stadium and Wukesong Sports Center, and then another 11 games in 9 days during the Paralympics - mostly play-by-play, but also providing color commentary alongside Aaron Murphy (Olympics) and Rob Snoek (Paralympics). Many of my Olympic games were broadcast live on the likes of NBC/Peacock in the US and the CBC in Canada, etc. - e.g., NBC used my commentary on the men's semifinal between Finland vs. Slovakia and the women's semifinal between Canada vs. Switzerland, with Kenny Albert calling the other semifinals in both competitions. (More full game broadcasts of my work at Beijing 2022 are available via Olympics.com.)

Ice Hockey at the 2018 Winter Olympics

I was one of three commentators to call the men's and women's ice hockey tournaments at the PyeongChang Olympics for Eurosport, working the overnight shift to provide off-tube commentary on 12 different games from their studio on the outskirts of London.

Slovakia's winning power-play goal to upset Russia (OAR), Group B

Ryan Donato's game-winner for Team USA against Slovakia, Group B

The dramatic latter stages of Germany vs. Sweden, Quarterfinals

Champions Hockey League (CHL)

I've been calling CHL games since this international tournament was relaunched in 2014, and I became the main voice for the CHL's world feed broadcasts ahead of the 2015-16 season. I've called the seven most recent CHL Finals live and onsite - most recently including the 2023 Final in Luleå, Sweden - although most of my CHL work is off-tube.

Kontinental Hockey League (KHL)

In the 2017-18 season, I called an average of three games per week from what is almost certainly the second-best league in the world (behind the NHL), and was DAZN Canada's voice of the Gagarin Cup playoffs. I called every game of both Conference Finals series and, alongside one of two color commentators (Paul Adey or Ron Shudra), every game of the Gagarin Cup Finals between Ak Bars Kazan and CSKA Moscow
